Lasting Relief for Chronic Low-Back Pain

The Intracept procedure is a minimally invasive treatment designed to address a specific type of chronic lower back pain known as vertebrogenic pain. By targeting the nerve responsible for transmitting pain signals from damaged vertebral endplates, Intracept can provide long-lasting relief without spinal implants or major surgery.

At Spine & Orthopedic Center, Dr. Kristy Fisher offers the Intracept procedure as an outpatient treatment for patients who are experiencing vertebrogenic low-back pain that has not improved with conservative care.

What Is Vertebrogenic Pain?

Vertebrogenic pain is a specific type of chronic low-back pain caused by damage and inflammation in the vertebral endplates. These structures help separate the vertebrae from the spinal discs. When they become damaged over time, the basivertebral nerve can transmit pain signals that contribute to ongoing low-back pain.

What to Expect

1. Evaluation

Dr. Fisher will review your symptoms, medical history, and MRI scans to determine whether vertebrogenic pain is the source of your discomfort.

2. Treatment

Using advanced imaging guidance, a specialized probe is placed within the affected vertebra through a small incision. Radiofrequency energy is then delivered to the basivertebral nerve to interrupt its ability to send pain signals.

3. Recovery

The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, allowing most patients to return home the same day. Recovery is typically straightforward, and your treatment plan may include activity recommendations or rehabilitation as needed.

Am I a Candidate?

  • Have experienced low-back pain for six months or longer
  • Have not found adequate relief with conservative treatments
  • Have MRI findings consistent with vertebral endplate damage (Modic changes)
  • Have pain that is determined to be vertebrogenic in origin

Schedule an Evaluation

If you’ve been struggling with persistent low-back pain, take the first step toward relief. Schedule an evaluation with Dr. Fisher to learn whether the Intracept procedure may be an option for you.
